Sofia

Sofia is the capital and the largest city of Bulgaria with more than 7000 years of history. The city is located in the western part of Bulgaria in the Sofia Valley with an altitude of approximately 550 meters above the sea level. The valley is situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain. Sofia spreads on a territory of 1,311 sq. km., and has many mineral springs.

Plovdiv

Plovdiv

Plovdiv is the second-largest city of Bulgaria, located in the historical region of Thrace. Plovdiv is the culture capital of Bulgaria, and it is an important economic, transport, cultural, and educational centre. The evidence of habitation in Plovdiv dating back to the 6th millennium BC. Therefore, Plovdiv is considered as the oldest inhabited city in Europe.

Koprivshtitsa

Nestled in the heart of Sredna Gora Mountain is the picturesque museum town of Koprivshtitsa. The charming town is known for the beauty of the surrounding nature, the impressive architecture, and the historical significance for the Bulgarian culture. The Old Town imbued with history attract visitors with various festivals and refreshing atmosphere of the mountain nature.

Ruse

Ruse

Ruse is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria. It is known for its 19th- and 20th-century Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo architecture. The Ruse-Giurgiu Friendship Bridge, until 14 June 2013 was the only one in the shared Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube, crosses the river here. Ruse is also the birthplace of the Nobel laureate in Literature Elias Canetti and the writer Michael Arlen.

Seven Rila Lakes

One of the most beautiful and magical places in Bulgaria is the area of Seven Rila Lakes located in the territory of Rila Nature Park in Rila Mountains. The altitude of the lowest lake is 2100 metres and the highest lake is on an altitude of 2500 metres.

Magura Cave

This magical place has laid the foundations of an ancient Balkan Teaching. Thousands of years ahead of its time. The drawings, some of which are more than 8 000 years old, depict in details the ancient rituals and customs. Furthermore, here is located the oldest solar calendar-nearly 7 000 years old, with a total of 366 days.

Vitosha Mountain

Vitosha Mountain is located in the west part of Bulgaria. The mountain has 10 peaks with over 2000 metres altitude. The highest peak of The Vitosha Mountain is Cherni Vruh (“Black Peak) with an altitude of 2290 metres above the sea level.

Rila Monastery

Rila Monastery

The Rila Monastery was founded by the Hermit Ivan Rilski and his students in the 10th century A.D. Secluded in the wilderness of the Rila Mountain, at an altitude of 1147 meters above the sea level, the Monastery impress not only with its beautiful architectural complex of cult spread on an area of 8000 square metres but also with the breathtaking nature around the Rila Monastery.


The Monastery is under the protection of UNESCO since 1983.

Boyana Church

At the foot of Mount Vitosha, situated in a magnificent park, is the small Boyana Church. Her mural masterpieces dating back from 1259 have been a precursor to The European Renaissance and deservedly assigned it a place on the Unesco World Heritage List as early as 1979.

Wine

Since the time of the ancient Thracians, winemaking has played a major role for the inhabitants of the Bulgarian lands. Thus, production of wine has a long history and there are various traditions connected with wine and grape growing.

Cuisine

The Bulgarian climate creates favorable conditions for growing a large variety of vegetables, herbs, and fruits and farming a wide range of animals. Therefore, the ingredients used in the traditional cuisine are quite diverse. Usually, Bulgarian tables include cold salads (some of the most famous ones are Shopska, Ovcharska, and Zhatvarska salads) and a wide variety of soups (vegetables, chicken, veal, cold yogurt soup, and tripe soup). The majority of main courses are either water-based stews with chicken, pork, lamb, or veal and vegetables or grilled meat and vegetables. Other traditional dishes of Bulgarian cuisine are pastries such as banitsa, pita, and different types of borek.
