Vitosha Mountain
Vitosha Mountain is located in the western part of Bulgaria. The mountain has 10 peaks with over 2000 meters of altitude. The highest peak in the Vitosha Mountains is Cherni Vruh ("Black Peak"), with an altitude of 2290 metres above sea level. The territory of the Vitosha Mountain includes Vitosha Nature Park, which is the oldest nature park in the Balkans.
At the foot of Vitosha Mountain is located Sofia city, the capital of Bulgaria. Thus, Vitosha Mountain represents one of the main symbols of Sofia. Due to its closeness to the city, you can reach the mountain by bus with public transport, by car, and there is a possibility for a chair lift. Vitosha Mountain is suitable for hiking during the spring, summer, and autumn and skiing during the winter.
Among the most beautiful and visited places on Vitosha Mountain are the Boyana Lake, the Boyana Waterfall, the Boyana Church, the "Golden Bridges" stone river and the Dragalevtsi Monastery.
