Srebarna Nature Reserve
Visit Srebarna Nature Reserve, nestled along the scenic shores of the Danube River. Srebarna Nature Reserve is located 18 kilometers west of Silistra and 2 kilometers south of the Danube River. The reserve, centers around Lake Srebarna and its surrounding habitats. Its strategic position along the Via Pontica, a major migratory route for birds traveling between Europe and Africa, provides a critical sanctuary for numerous endangered bird species, offering both nesting grounds and stopover habitats. Srebarna Nature Reserve spans over 850 hectares of wetlands, including a freshwater lake that serves as a crucial nesting and breeding ground for 221 bird species. Some of the iconic birds you can spot here include: Mute Swan; Dalmatian Pelican; Great White Pelican; Pygmy Cormorant; Glossy Ibis; Rare Herons, and many others.
In addition, the animal world in the Sreberna Nature Reserve is very diverse. There are 41 species of mammals, 11 species of reptiles, 10 species of amphibians, and 24 species of fish. Some of the animals are: otter, European wild cat, steppe jumping mouse, water rat, smoky mouse, smoky archer, spiny turtle, wood frog, red-bellied pike, pike, carp, redfin, lake crayfish and others. Furthermore, the picturesque setting of Srebarna Nature Reserve offers stunning views of reed beds, open waters, and surrounding woodlands.
